The US Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Transit Authority (FTA) recently announced $1.7 billion in available funding through the Low or No Emission and Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Competitive Programs FY2023 Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO).
"The funding will support state and local efforts to modernize aging transit fleets with low- and no-emission buses, renovate and construct bus facilities, and assist workforce development."
Funding extends into FY 2026 with a total of $5.6 billion over 5 years (2022–2026). Funding promotes replacement of old transit buses, improves public transportation affordability, and also contributes to the federal goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

Orange County Public Schools, in Florida is rolling out all-electric school buses the district announced. The district is taking advantage of grant funding from the Florida Department of Education and the Department of Environmental Protection, OCPS has secured six electric buses.
Although the buses cost three times more than traditional diesel vehicles, they have lower maintenance costs over time due to savings on oil changes, and provide the obvious benefit of cleaner air.
