Uber, BP, & EV Charging
BP (BP - NYSE) has been heavily investing in the EV charging space. In February, BP announced that it had purchased TravelCenters of America for $1.3 Billion in cash for approximately 280 fuel, convenience, and restaurant centers in the United States.
"BP currently has around 22,000 EV-charging points globally, and hopes to have more than 100,000 by 2030."
The forward thinking petroleum company has been moving fast into the EV charging space, perhaps speculating about what the future holds in the shift from gasoline to electricity to power vehicles.
Now wants to give Uber drivers the VIP treatment at it's EV charging stations globally.
“The scale of what we’re trying to do together is pretty big,” Richard Bartlett, BP Pulse’s chief executive officer, said in an interview. “If you take 5 million-plus monthly active drivers, and you assume that you want all of those driving an electric vehicle over a certain timeline, the amount of terawatt-hours of power required is pretty material.”
Interestingly enough, the petroleum company wants to be a net-zero carbon emitter by 2050. For more information about EV charging, leave us a comment below or email us at news@ph1c.com
